The Stripper That Gets It Off – Every Time

Cooper’s Stripper is the heart of the Cooper’s Stripping System: a premium quality, high-performance, deep-penetrating spray-on stripper that has been dissolving stubborn old finishes for over 40 years. This is the volume size – for shops, crews and restorations where the work is counted in doors, sashes, elevations and hulls rather than in single pieces.

This refill gives you 2.6 gallons (10 liters) of Cooper’s Stripper, ready to spray straight onto the work.

Strips ANY Paint. ANY Varnish.

On a restoration you rarely know what’s under the top coat until you’re into it. Cooper’s doesn’t need you to know. If it’s a coating, Cooper’s takes it off:

  • Lead paint
  • Enamel paint
  • Acrylic paint
  • 2K (two-part) finishes
  • Powder coat
  • Polyurethane
  • Lacquer
  • Varnish
  • Shellac
  • Oils and stains

The deep-penetrating formula works down through multiple layers at once – mixed, unknown, decades-deep – softening and dissolving so it can be lifted away cleanly, then rinsed with Cooper’s Flusher.

One Product Across The Whole Shop

Suitable for use on wood, veneer, metal, glass, and masonry. Cooper’s is tough enough to strip powder coat off steel and 2K off a car hood, yet gentle enough to lift a century of paint from an antique while leaving the precious patina – and delicate veneers and moldings – intact.

That range is worth something on its own. One product, one method and one set of tools covers the sash job, the balustrade, the cast iron and the client’s inherited chest of drawers.

Using Cooper’s on Fiberglass

Cooper’s can be used to remove coatings from fiberglass – including boats and car and truck body panels – but fiberglass asks for a lighter touch than wood or steel. The reason is simple: Cooper’s dissolves coatings, and given long enough it will eventually begin to soften the resin in the fiberglass itself.

Managed properly, that’s easily avoided, but it is worth briefing anyone on the tools before they start. Work in small sections and don’t let Cooper’s sit on fiberglass any longer than it takes to lift the finish. As soon as the coating has softened, remove it and rinse any residue thoroughly with Cooper’s Flusher. As with any surface, start with a test patch in an inconspicuous spot to establish suitability and get a feel for how quickly that particular coating lifts.

No Sanding Means Less Labor, Not Just Less Dust

Sanding is the expensive part of a strip. It is slow, it is hard on the operator, it needs containment and cleanup, and on anything with age or profile it destroys the very thing the client is paying you to save – patina, crisp arrises, original tool marks and moldings you cannot put back.

Cooper’s works differently:

  1. Spray it on with the trigger applicator.
  2. Let it work – the formula penetrates and dissolves the finish.
  3. Remove the softened finish with a scraper.
  4. Re-apply to dissolve the finish that’s soaked into the grain – the part that would otherwise have to be sanded out.
  5. Scrub and wipe away the gunk with steel wool, a grit-impregnated pad, or a detail brush.
  6. Flush the residue away with Cooper’s Flusher. Then refinish – no sanding.

No sanding. No dust. No vibration. No noise. Just the original surface, ready for its new finish.

Lead Paint: Wet From Start To Finish

Sanding or dry-scraping old lead-bearing coatings puts toxic dust into the air, the soil and your crew’s lungs. Cooper’s keeps the old finish wet, so there is no airborne dust generated in the first place, and the stripped waste stays as a contained, liftable residue that can be collected and disposed of responsibly.

Low Odor. Non-Caustic. Easier On You.

Cooper’s is non-caustic and low odor – no harsh caustic burns to the surface (or the user). Combined with silent, vibration-free stripping, it makes even big projects far more pleasant to work through.

Estimating The Job

Cooper’s deep-penetrating performance means every quart strips more actual surface – which is what matters when you are pricing by the square foot rather than by the container.

Coverage (actual surface stripped*):

Finish Coverage This 2.6-gallon (10 L) refill strips approx.
Ultra Thick approx. 10 sq ft per quart (1 m² per liter) approx. 110 sq ft (10 m²)
Thick approx. 20 sq ft per quart (2 m² per liter) approx. 215 sq ft (20 m²)
Thin approx. 40 sq ft per quart (4 m² per liter) approx. 430 sq ft (40 m²)

*This is a guide only – actual coverage depends on the type and thickness of the old finish. On a quoted job, strip a test section first and work your real rate from that.
