Moisturiser

The finish that means you never strip again.

You've stripped it - now feed it. Cooper's Moisturiser is a rich, natural timber finish that works completely differently from varnish or polyurethane: instead of forming a skin on the wood, it absorbs deep into the grain, protecting the timber from within. There's no coating to crack, peel or yellow - which means no future stripping. When you touch Moisturised wood, you're touching the silky timber grain itself.

Non-toxic, no smell, UV stable, and easy enough for anyone to apply - the wood simply absorbs what it needs, and you buff away the surplus. Cooper's Moisturiser breaks the restoration cycle.

How Much Moisturiser Does Your Project Need?

Allow 1 litre per 4 m² of timber surface — which includes plenty for application plus spare for future maintenance:

Size

Covers approx.* Typical projects
500ml 2 m² A couple of chairs or a small table or a single door
1L 4 m² A dining table or a door and surrounds or a few windows
2L 8 m² A room's joinery — skirtings, architraves, windows — or a full dining suite
5L 20 m² Wall panelling, board-and-batten ceilings, freshly stripped floors, whole-room woodwork

*Based on what we typically see for projects stripped first with Cooper's Stripping products. New or especially dry timber may be more thirsty and require more.

In the Wood, Not On It

Most finishes entomb your woodwork in an artificial-looking film - a frail coating that will eventually crack, yellow and fail, putting you right back on the restoration treadmill. Moisturiser protects from within instead:

  • It looks right. The wood's natural colours come up rich and inviting - no plastic gloss, no artificial film.
  • It feels incredible. You're touching silky-smooth grain, not a coating - quite unlike polyurethane or Danish oil, which feel rough or sandy by comparison.
  • It lasts. Ultra-violet stable, with no skin to crack or yellow - and suited to almost every timber.
  • It's foolproof to apply. Like wiping on an absorbent gel: the wood takes what it needs, and you wipe away any surplus 24 hours later. No brush marks, no runs, no skill required - you can even apply it in dusty conditions, or pre-finish woodwork before installation.
  • It's safe. Non-toxic and odour-free - safe for everyone in the house while you work.
  • It saves money. Per finished square metre it's similar to or cheaper than three coats of polyurethane - and considerably cheaper than Danish oil.

Maintenance is just dusting. Add a little Moisturiser to your dusting cloth to feed the wood as you clean. Ceilings may never need reviving; sunny windows like a wipe-over every 6–12 months; doors every 1–3 years. Your woodwork keeps looking great - without ever needing to be stripped again. What other finish can say that?

Where To Use It

Moisturiser is intended for interior timber, and it must penetrate - so it can only go onto freshly stripped or new bare wood with no other coating. (Old finish on your project? The Cooper's Stripping System is designed to prepare woodwork for moisturising.) Perfect for board-and-batten ceilings and beams, wall panelling, picture rails, dado and skirting, windows and architraves (it withstands harsh UV), fireplaces and built-in cabinetry, doors, freshly stripped floors, and furniture.
